Video: Edinburgh Festivals in 90 Seconds
Edinburgh is a beautiful city all year round. With its cobbled streets, fascinating history and Scottish charm, it is somewhere I am considering moving to.
In August, however, it really comes alive. With five of the Edinburgh Festivals taking place in one month, there is such a buzz that is hard to capture in words.
So turn the music up and take a whirlwind, 90-second tour of Edinburgh Festivals – It’s the 70th birthday celebration next year… Will I see you there?
The five festivals which take place in August and that were in the video are:
The Edinburgh Fringe Festival is perhaps the most famous as it takes over the city. From big venues to small underground pubs this mix of cheap and free comedy, magic, theatre and performing arts is a global stage representing the very best of new (and old) talent.
Edinburgh International Festival puts on a curated programme of shows and events throughout the city in the bigger venues with a ticket price attached. Stars (such as Alan Cumming in the video) are regulars at these events.

The Edinburgh Book Festival is a huge deal. In the modern world of kindles having so many passionate writers presenting talks and so many hardbacks on sale from different backgrounds it is well worth checking out in town.
Edinburgh Art Festival is dotted all around the city. From contemporary installations, pop-ups, statues and guided walks. These works span from contemporary to historic making them suitable for any kind of eye.
The Edinburgh Royal Tattoo was perhaps my favourite of them all. Against the backdrop of the castle, with projections, fireworks and two hours of magic army bands from around the world put on a show unlike any other I have seen.
