Cayman Islands Reopening For Tourism September 1st With Strict Protocols

Update: August 9th, 2020:

Citing a rise in the rate of coronavirus infections in other countries, including the U.S., the Cayman Islands government announced it will keep its borders closed another 30 days, until October 1.

The Cayman Islands will be reopening its borders for international tourism starting on September 1st with strict protocols in place.

At the COVID-19 press conference on Friday, 17 July 2020, Deputy Premier and Tourism Minister Moses Kirkconnell, made the announcement that the phased reopening of Cayman Islands' borders will begin on September 1st.

Tourism will resume, but in ways that will be the “safest possible” for both locals and the air-arrival visitors.

“The prospect of reopening is a subject of concern to many in our communities,” Kirkconnell said. “We also recognize that keeping our borders closed indefinitely is not reasonable, sustainable and cannot continue from an economic standpoint,” Kirkconnell said.

Cayman Islands Reopening Entry Requirements

  1. All travelers must present a negative coronavirus test completed within 72 hours before entering the country.
  2. Once travelers depart their planes, they will be required to self-quarantine for five days and present a second negative test before being permitted to freely roam the tropical paradise
  3. All travelers will wear a health monitoring device for continuous screening while in the Cayman Islands.

“I am hopeful that this advanced health screening solution will sufficiently enhance our reopening protocols and provide further confidence so that that we can once again welcome visitors to our shores, while still minimizing the risk of introducing new cases to the local community,” said Kirkconnell.

Which Countries Are Allowed to Visit The Cayman Islands?

While no specific country restrictions were announced, Government officials in the Cayman Islands said there will be no cap on the number of visitors allowed on the island at any one time, saying the there are several factors to consider, including “the number of people who leave on repatriation flights.”

The British territory is also following the rise of coronavirus outbreaks in certain countries and is monitoring the global pandemic. The situation has been described as fluid, and officials will do what’s best for its residents' health and safety.
